Corona Update: 16th Jan 2022

From the daily data, it seems that the third wave of the Coronavirus pandemic has hit its peak (preliminary conclusion). However, to arrive at a strong conclusion, longer duration data with integrity and transparency in reporting by states is a compulsory condition. There have always been questions regarding the transparency and integrity of the reported data. So on the basis of just two weeks’ data, it is too early to arrive at a conclusive interference.
Apart from the fall in the daily reported confirmed cases of COVID 19, the 7-days growth rate in the active cases has fallen to 10.1% from 21.9% on 9th January 2022. Also the new cases in many metro cities like Mumbai and Delhi are falling. These altogether are good indicators and India can hope that the third wave of infection will soon be over. However, testing in cities like Delhi has fallen down by more than 50% and this is a cause of concern as such practice by state is a tool of headline management rather than the pandemic management.
