A few observations from 18th August 2020 (National Data) on coronavirus pandemic:-

1. COVID19 new case count increased by 65,024 to the total of 27,66,626 on 18th August 2020 with 7-days growth rate of 2.49% and a doubling period of 28.1 days. It seems that India is still away from its peak and a conclusive trend reversal is elusive.

2. The 7-days growth rate of the active cases was 0.7% with a doubling period of 97.7 days with the active case count of 6,76,908 on 18th August 2020. Active cases are continuously increasing.

3. The overall positivity rate was 7.72% against the daily positivity rate of 8.11% on 18th August 2020. It’s important that the daily positivity rate falls. Total tests done were 8,01,518 with a cumulative total of 3,17,42,782. Numbers of tests are increasing but there is a need to increase it manifold.

4. The overall recovery rate increased to 73.62% on 18th August 2020 against the daily recovery rate of 92.97%. This is a good indication that daily recovery rate is higher than the overall recovery rate for more than 10 days.

5. Case fatality rate has fallen to 1.92% as on 18th August against the world’s average of 3.52%. It has been consistently falling early April in India.
